Andrea Letterie from Rice DK - Competition Time!

It's competition time, folks!

NB - The competition is now closed!

Our favourite Danish brand Rice has launched this fab new range of melamine with prints by Dutch illustrator Andrea Letterie and we're so excited about it that we've decided to give a set away to one lucky fan. We're thinking ahead to picnic season here and we want your ideas for what you might pack up for the park to serve on your beautiful new tableware. So here's a chance to win over £100 worth of the beautiful melamine.

Andrea takes the inspiration for her artwork from everyday things - whether it's her collection of tea cups, her dog, or a bunch of colourful flowers from the garden. It's this love of bold, bright colour and simple pleasures which makes the collaboration with Rice DK such a good fit. As well as their fun and exciting design, we've always loved Rice for their ethical outlook, being one of the smallest companies ever to achieve Social Accountability 8000 accreditation, and it seems like a love of the simple things in life goes hand in hand with care and commitment to others.

Competition deadline: Midnight on 6th April 2014

How to win!

In case you hadn't noticed, we're very keen on food at fig1.co.uk. With the signs of spring firmly shooting up everywhere, we're thinking about picnics, barbecues and alfresco lunches - in fact, we rarely think about anything
else. So to help feed our obsession, give us some ideas of your favourite summer foods, either in a comment on this blog or on our Facebook page. Make it as simple or complicated as you like - go to town with a full recipe or a link to your blog, or just a quick word or two! We're looking forward to your ideas, but the winner will simply be picked at random with no judgement call so just a few words is fine if you are short of time. If you enter on Facebook we'd also like you to share the post about this competition - it helps share the fun!

This competition is only open to UK residents and shipping is to UK addresses only - we're a small UK focused company and our reach doesn't yet stretch beyond! Sorry to anyone outside of the UK!

We then have a simple form for you to fill in on Survey Monkey - this is just so we have details to inform people of the results - we'll use it to send one email to let you know if you have won or not, and we need the address so we can send the prize to the winner, but we will not store these details after the competition - you'll have to make sure you are on our mailing list separately if you want to receive future information from us by subscribing using the link on the bottom left of our home page at www.fig1.co.uk.

In Summary, to enter:
  • Comment on this blog OR comment and share on the competition post on our Facebook page with a summer food idea
  • Complete the form on Survey Monkey
  • Deadline is Midnight on Sunday 6th April 2014
  • Winners will be informed on Monday 7th April 2014
  • UK entrants only

What you can win!

Good luck!

My favourite summer foods would have to be a crisp fresh salad, with home-made crusty bread and a beautiful lime and chilli dressing. Perhaps with a piece of grilled halloumi on the side. Followed by juicy fat strawberries.

I'd love this! Summer food for me is all about glorious bowls full of cut up fruit (preferably that someone else has cut up for me)and anything with tomatoes and basil in it.

My favourite picnic foods would have to be a big picnic loaf, take one round crusty loaf and hollow out the middle filling with barbequed chicken, mayo, roasted veg and spinach, followed by Eton mess in individual pots. Serve with kids, man and dog. Season with a great view! x

When going on a picnic i I,like to make some lovely scotch eggs - either regular or tiny ones with quail eggs. Then some home made cheese pies, all flakey so you need a cute plate to catch the crumbs! Some cherry tomatoes to munch on and maybe some individual little trifles, it's nice to make it yourself as it makes al fresco dining a little bit more special . Real pretty napkins too , not paper ones, and a vintage tablecloth to spread out .All this to give the grandchildren special memories of their summer visits to us!

Summer for me spells Barbeque!! My favourite is Tandori Chicken Skewers.

Marinate cubed raw chicken in small pot of natural yoghurt and approx 1 tablespoon of tandori spice powder and a squeeze of lemon juice, for about 1 hour.

Thread the chicken onto wooden/metal skewers with chunks of pepper, onion and mushroom or any other veg you like and bbq, turning regularly until the chicken is cooked through.

Serve with baby potatoes roasted in coconut oil and salt! YUM!

Unknown said...

WandaFish - I was thinking of doing a spinach and feta pide recipe next, which is kind of a yeast bread dough version of spanakopita - we used to have them all the time when we lived in Sydney briefly but they are not so easy to find here.

strawberries and cream!

They are so beautiful that on their first few outings to the garden or on a picnic I think I'd go for really simple things to let the designs sing and shine. Cucumber from the greenhouse, white bread (with crusts cut off for a real treat) and halved hard boiled eggs. Then down to barbecues and colours galore.
Good luck to everyone. What a gorgeous prize.

Homemade guacamole, dressed with lime, and my own recipe for pitta breads with a glass of elderflower cordial (possibly with the addition of some sparkling wine!!!!).

Whenever we have a barbecue, I make my chickpea and feta salad. It is very simple - just chickpeas, crumbled feta, caramelised onions and coriander - but delicious, and a perfect accompaniment to burgers, sausages, ribs etc. I only ever make it in the summer, so I strongly associate it with sunny days, leisurely lunches in the garden and long, balmy evenings.

I love picnics! We have winter /autumn picnics - jacket potaoes wrapped in foil, tea towels and insulating bags. we don't have to go far but it's fun to have a picnic. Summer picnics? cold chicken satay skewers, salads and bread. or just plain, simple and gorgeous mature cheddar cheese, crusty bread, real butter and sliced tomatoes. yum!!

mrsrobinson said...

So looking forward to sunny picnics! Ours usually have packed away curried egg sandwiches, strawberries, squidgy brownies and gingerbeer... along with anything else that can be squeezed in. Such a lovely giveaway!

Joan said...

The best picnics I remember were with my grandparents and involved getting the big rucksack from the top cupboard in their kitchen, getting up early and making sandwiches named individually to avoid arguments, a big thermos of tea, homemade cake (usually date and walnut) and lots of fruit or even gooseberry fool and loading up the car and setting off to somewhere remote. Childhood bliss.

Thank you for reminding me of the mini cheese and onion tarts my Mum used to make all through the summer: childhood picnic memories! I must get the recipe before the good weather kicks in...
